The process of files getting corrupted because of some hardware or software failure is known as data corruption and this is one of the main problems which Internet hosting companies face since the larger a hard disk is and the more data is filed on it, the more likely it is for data to get corrupted. You'll find a couple of fail-safes, yet often the information gets damaged silently, so neither the file system, nor the administrators detect a thing. Because of this, a bad file will be handled as a regular one and if the HDD is a part of a RAID, that file will be copied on all other drives. In theory, this is for redundancy, but in practice the damage will be worse. The moment a file gets corrupted, it will be partially or completely unreadable, so a text file will not be readable, an image file will present a random blend of colors in case it opens at all and an archive will be impossible to unpack, so you risk sacrificing your website content. Although the most widely used server file systems include various checks, they are likely to fail to identify some problem early enough or require a long time period in order to check all the files and the server will not be operational for the time being.
No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Hosting
We warrant the integrity of the data uploaded in any hosting account that is made on our cloud platform as we use the advanced ZFS file system. The latter is the only one that was designed to avert silent data corruption through a unique checksum for each and every file. We'll store your data on a large number of NVMe drives that function in a RAID, so the same files will be accessible on several places concurrently. ZFS checks the digital fingerprint of all of the files on all the drives in real time and in case the checksum of any file is different from what it should be, the file system swaps that file with a healthy copy from some other drive inside the RAID. No other file system uses checksums, so it's easy for data to be silently damaged and the bad file to be reproduced on all drives over time, but since that can never happen on a server using ZFS, you will not have to worry about the integrity of your data.
No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Semi-dedicated Hosting
Your semi-dedicated hosting account will be shielded from silent data corruption since all of our storage servers employ the state-of-the-art ZFS file system. What makes the latter unique is that it uses checksums, or digital identifiers, to verify the integrity of each file. When you upload content to your account, it will be saved on a couple of redundant drives operating in a RAID i.e. the files shall be the same across all disks. All copies of a particular file will feature the same checksum on all drives and ZFS will compare the checksums of the duplicates right away, so if it finds a mismatch, that will indicate that one of the copies is damaged, it will swap that file with a good copy from one of the other drives. Even if there's an unforeseen power failure, the data on the servers will not become corrupted and there won't be any need for a time-consuming system check which other file systems perform following some breakdown, prolonging the time needed for the server to get back online. ZFS is the file system that can really protect your content from silent data corruption.
