How Dedicated Servers Work
When we speak of hosting servers, there are 3 basic kinds - shared web hosting web servers, VPS (virtual web hosting servers) and dedicated servers. Shared hosting servers accommodate multiple customers and hence the system resources per hosting account are limited, VPS packages offer more server configuration autonomy, but also influence other private virtual servers on the hardware node if utilized unwisely, and dedicated servers offer you the independence to do everything you please without meddling with anyone else.
Why would you need a dedicated server?
Dedicated servers are generally much more high-priced than shared hosting web servers or private virtual servers. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The answer is rather simple. If your company has a data-heavy online portal, or just has very exact web server configuration requirements, the best option is a dedicated server. For someone who is prepared to invest in safety and reliability, the greater price is of no concern. You receive root-level access and can use 100% of the physical server's resources without anyone else utilizing these system resources and messing with your web pages.
Hardware specs
The majority of hosting firms, including us at Audiospecific, provide several different hardware architectures you can choose from depending on your demands. The configurations include different kinds of microprocessors, a different amount of cores, different RAM memory and server hard drive sizes and different bandwidth usage quotas. You can choose a hosting Control Panel, which is a useful user interface if you want to use the web server for hosting purposes only and prefer not to resort to a Secure Shell client for all the changes you will be making. We offer three kinds of hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.
The web hosting Control Panel of your preference
If you are a self-assured Linux user (our dedicated hosting servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could manage your dedicated server through a Secure Shell terminal only. That, however, could be inconvenient, especially if you choose to grant full root access to somebody else who has less technical expertise than yourself. This is why having hosting CP software activated is a brilliant idea. The Hepsia web hosting Control Panel GUI that we provide does not include root privileges and is mainly suitable for someone who runs lots of sites that consume a lot of system resources, but prefers to administer the web portals, databases and e-mailboxes through an intuitive Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel Control Panels, on the other hand, grant full server root access and offer 3 access levels - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell web hosting packages rather than utilizing the dedicated server just for yourself, you should pick one of these two.
Server monitoring and backup procedures
Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated server and of backing it up. In the event of a predicament with your dedicated web hosting server, such as a non-responsive Apache or a downtime, it is desirable to have some sort of monitoring platform enabled. Here at Audiospecific the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated server as well. Backups are also an extra option - the hosting supplier offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could choose a kind of RAID that would allow you to store the same data on 2 hard disk drives as a protective measure in case of a disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted full server root access erases something accidentally.
